Feeling a bit down?
Exercise can hep you to improve your mood if you are feeling slightly depressed, stressed and/or suffering from anxiety.
How does exercise help?
Relieves tension
Improves your sleep
Increases your appetite
Gives you a sense of achievement
Increase energy levels
Releases frustrations
Increase social interaction
How often should you exercise?
The World Health Organisation recommends that adults should aim to get at least 30 minutes of regular moderate intensity exercise most days.
What types of exercises are most beneficial to help lift your mood?
In order to feel emotional benefits there isn’t one type of exercise that is better than another. The main focus is to get your body moving and increasing your heart rate.
Suggestions and ideas:
Hiking, Walking, Dancing, Yoga, Swimming, Boxing, Rock climbing, Gardening, Cycling
Often putting the focus on something else other than what is getting you down or making you feel stressed can have a very positive impact on your life. Who knows maybe there’s a marathon runner in you, or a great dancer that you didn’t know existed.
Tip: If you’re finding it difficult to get motivated try joining a walking group, running club, a class that you particularly enjoy such as boxing or even dancing. If you know you need a bit of extra encouragement try to get a friend to join you.
