What Are You Grateful For?

Do you every feel that life is passing you by?  Do you get to the end of the week and wonder how it went so quickly?

Life these days is extremely busy and even chaotic at times.   This isn’t necessarily a bad thing as many people thrive on being busy and productive. The problem arises when you don’t stop to appreciate all that you are working so hard for and when it starts to affect your health.

In terms of our mental and physical health, living this way can lead to breakdowns and a busy mind can keep you from sleeping. One tool that is very effective for making you stop, appreciate you’re hard work and relax you is keeping a Gratitude Journal. Now before you knock it and wonder what all the fluffy stuff is about, give it a try.

Your challenge is to do this for 21 days and see how it affects you.  Here’s how:

Every night before you go to sleep write down 5 things you are grateful for in that day.  Write this in note form so that it won’t take you long and won’t feel like it’s one more thing to add to your day.  It shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes.

The challenge comes on days that you find it difficult to find 5 things.  Those bad days when nothing seemed to go right.  On these days you need to really search.  Think:  Did someone open a door for you? Did you hear someone laughing and it made you smile?

On days where you have a huge list, still keep it to 5, write down your top 5 for this day.  Why only 5 when you have so many more?  The point is that you don’t start looking back at days when you had 10 and view the days with 5 as bad days.

Don’t underestimate the power of doing this.

This is such a great tool that even well known Charles Poliquin, one of the World’s Premier Strength coaches wrote an article regarding the power of being grateful.  His article is entitled TWO Great Mindful Strategies To Induce Sleep. The only criticism of this is that it is posted under the For Women category of his site.  This really is something for everyone.
