Why Alcohol Is For Weaklings

The obvious risks of too much alcohol are obvious and well known by most people even if they choose to ignore them; a few of these you’ll find in the article: 7 Reasons to Give Up Alcohol.

There is however a not so obvious yet extremely important reason to cut back or even cut out alcohol, especially if you’re trying to put on lean muscle mass. Remember this applies to fat loss as you need lean muscle to increase your metabolism and burn more calories at rest.

A recent study has proven that subjects (irrelevant of age) experience a decrease in the ability to synthesis protein.  This is massive!  Put aside the sugar, calories and the fact that alcohol is a diuretic, the decreased ability to synthesis protein means you’re putting in all that hard work for very little results.

Next time you consider having a big blow out with the drinking remember that no amount of exercise will compensate for the damage.  You will literally be starting over again every time, if not two steps back.

Find it difficult to give up alcohol?  Figure out why?  Is it social pressures, boredom or something more personal? What ever the reason, if you want to look and feel your best, the alcohol will need to go.

It’s true that the occasional glass of red wine or even beer isn’t going to have a big impact, but note the key word ‘occasional’  If you drink regularly then it’s a good idea to completely detox for at least 30 days before introducing the ‘occasional’ drink.
