Nature’s Super Vitamin

All these years later and it’s still true, that liver your mom use to try to feed you is still considered nature’s vitamin. It’s known to be one of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet!

Why is liver so good for you? 

It’s loaded with fat soluble vitamins and in particular is high in Vitamin B vitamins including Vitamin B12. B vitamins deficiencies can result in:

  • Muscle fatigue and aches
  • Poor memory and concentration
  • Digestive problems
  • Fatigue, low energy
  • Anemia
  • Anxiety

Liver is also known as a fertility food super food as it’s high in protein, zinc and folate.

High in A vitamins. A 3.5 oz serving provides you with nearly 200% of your daily Vitamin A. Vitamin A is important for:

  • eye health
  • thyroid function
  • immune function

Quality matters

Like any animal protein quality matters. Look for liver that is from grass fed animals or organic. Animals that are not raised in a humane way are very high in antibiotics and hormones. Liver from any animal is a good option. I prefer chicken as the taste isn’t as strong and it’s simple and quick to make.

How often should you eat it?

Consuming liver once a week or every two weeks is plenty.  Like anything there’s no need to over do it. A super food doesn’t mean we need it daily to get the benefits.

How to prepare it?

I’m all about simple. I fry mine in a pan with a bit of Nando’s peri peri sauce and I’m good to go. I usually have it for lunch and serve up with a couple of over easy eggs and a salad. Today I just had it with some tomatoes that had olive oil and Himalayan pink for the dressing.

You could get fancy and fry up some onions and garlic. It really is a quick and easy thing to prepare. If you hate the taste my local butcher told me an Italian secret. She said Italians grate frozen liver in to they meat sauces.  I have tried it and it’s delicious, to be honest you can’t really taste it.
